Los Bronces open pit copper and molybdenum mine site visit.
Los Bronces is located in the Metropolitan Region, 65 kilometers from Santiago and at 3,500 meters above sea level in the Andes mountain range. There are only 30 places available, so register now to avoid disappointment. The site visit is free of charge. |
Los Bronces is an open pit copper and molybdenum mine. The ore extracted is crushed and transported in an ore slurry pipeline 56 km long to Las Tórtolas flotation plant, where copper and molybdenum concentrates are produced. The mine also produces cathodes.
The site is over 2,500 meters above sea level, so delegates wishing to take part in the visit will have to sign a medical form.
In 2009 Los Bronces produced 238,423 tonnes of fine copper, including high purity cathodes and copper concentrate, as well as 2,768 tonnes of molybdenum concentrate.
Los Bronces Division has approximately 1,700 workers, including company employees and external contractors for operation s and projects.
The Los Bronces Development project was approved in November 2007 and is forecast to come into production in Q4 2011. This brownfield expansion will increase throughput from 61 ktpd to 148 ktpd, increasing average copper production in the first 10 years to around 415 ktpa (total production will average 490 ktpa over the first three years), plus 5.4 ktpa Mo, consolidating the operation’s low cost curve position.
The project scope includes a new grinding plant connected to the main site by a 4.4 km conveyor belt, together with a 52 km ore slurry pipeline to the existing Cu-Mo flotation plant at Las Tortolas. The life of the mine at Los Bronces is greater than 30 years, making Los Bronces a truly world class operation.
