CRU’s Steel team is seeking a talented and motivated analyst to contribute to our research of steel industry costs and emissions, providing insightful analysis of the steel industry as it seeks to meet the challenge of decarbonisation. This role will require the ability to research and model the industry, contribute to the publication of in-depth reports, support and build strong relationships with our external and internal clients, and gain exposure to and assist CRU’s broader steel and steel raw materials analysis, and consulting projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with data collection, process model development, and analysis of supply, costs and emissions across the steel value chain (steel, iron ore, and metallurgical coal);
  • Update and maintain CRU’s Steel Cost Model data;
  • Deliver product demonstrations to potential clients of the Steel Cost Service, and support existing clients through calls, face to face meetings and presentations;
  • Support and work collaboratively within the Costs and Emissions team, and across CRU’s Analysis, Sustainability and Consulting teams;
  • Build a strong network of industry contact and develop strong client relationships, building your recognition as an industry expert.
  • Work closely with sales and marketing to maximise sales of our analysis products.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams to help transition our data products to new platforms.

Qualifications:

Relevant university degree – engineering, metallurgy, geology or commerce/economics degrees highly regarded but not essential. Other relevant subjects will be considered.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Proven analytical/model building skills required, including a familiarity with handling large data sets and an understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Knowledge of the steel, industrial processing, or mining sectors is desirable.
  • Knowledge of other similar sectors are beneficial, e.g. chemical process industries, energy sector, logistics, non-ferrous metals.
  • Exposure to working remotely across time zones with cross-cultural awareness is also beneficial
  • First class data management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • An ability to individually work to strict deadlines;
  • Goal-oriented, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; able to operate efficiently, effectively and professionally within a fast paced, dynamic and results driven business environment;
  • An analytical mind-set and able to get to grips quickly with the intricacies and complexities of the economics, processes, and data that drive our business and strategy.

Desireable criteria:

  • Further degrees (Masters degree and/or PhD) would be well regarded.
