Core or critical – resolving the commodity conundrum Image

In this webinar, we will introduce and discuss CRU's definitions of core and critical minerals to serve as an introduction to the debates and presentations which are core to this year’s CRU Breakfast

The strategy for humanity to invest its way to net zero has begun with the energy transition, but the changes that are being initiated in the energy mix are not easy or simple.  The changes must be enabled by massive investment in both equipment and infrastructure, both of which will consume materials and energy.

There needs to be considerable thought given to the source of the materials and energy that will be needed to build that equipment and infrastructure.

If unprecedented volumes of solar silicon for manufacturing solar cells, rare earth elements for magnets in wind turbines, lithium for energy storage, and copper for electrical wiring - new or expanded mines - need to be permitted, financed, built, and operated before the materials are available and the new infrastructure can be installed.

This webinar will introduce and define CRU’s concepts of core and critical and open the way for future debate.
