Gareth has direct experience of developing and delivering value propositions and supply chains to sell steel products into domestic and global markets. He also has a strong understanding of downstream high value-added products and channels, gained from customer collaboration and ten years working in GKN’s automotive businesses.
Furthermore, Gareth has hands-on experience of development and execution of business development, channel and business transformation strategies as well as change management.
Gareth joined the CRU Consulting team in 2023 and has worked mostly on projects in the iron and steel value chain including:
- Lender’s market assessment for a start-up green DRI project
- Lender’s due diligence for a hydrogen DRI project
- Slab sourcing study for finished steel re-roller
- Steel cost model inputs for a department of a European government
- Market analysis of heavy sections and financial evaluation of new heavy section mill
- Metallics market study for an EAF steelmaking business case
- New mineral opportunity identification study
Industry experience:
- Before joining CRU Consulting, he held several senior leadership positions within British Steel, Tata Steel Europe and its predecessor companies, including strategy development, sales and marketing and supply chain director roles.
- Gareth has spoken at industry events, such as Eurometal World Steel Distribution Summit, sat on various UK Steel and Eurofer product committees and worked with UK governments on public procurement guidelines for steel.

- In addition to his metals industry experience, his private consultancy experience includes a diverse client history, including large (steel) corporations, SME service providers and regional public sector entities.
